The hamlet of Holbrook is located in both the town of Brookhaven and the town of Islip. Part of Holbrook’s historical allure is the varying stories about how the hamlet was named. One story is that the community was originally called Old Brook, while the other is that it was originally called Hollow Brook. Modern Holbrook has no streams or brooks due to the changed landscape that comes with economic and residential development.

The Holbrook Chamber of Commerce hosts a Carnival and Craft Fair annually and also sponsors many other community events throughout the year.
